FOTD: Burning Heart

I purchased Sugarpill's Burning Heart over a year ago when Sugarpill put up some ever so slightly damaged palettes for about $20 each.  I managed to get my hands on a Burning Heart palette, which was actually in near  perfect condition except for a slight chip in the matte yellow eyeshadow.  Poison plum (purple) in my palette is not nearly as pigmented as the others, and I don't know if it's because my palette is supposedly defective.  In any case, I can sort of make it work if I swirl my brush in the shadow about 20 times.

I've done a few looks with this palette but never actually posted them (save my Halloween 2011 look) here on this blog.  The look I have here today was inspired by EyeGriffiti's Black and Red Tutorial.  It really doesn't look much like their masterpiece, but it made me dig out this gorgeous palette again and rock some brights.

Damn, I look like a BITCH without my glasses on.

FOTD: Fashion Smoke

I like it bright and I like it bold.  Here is a look from Saturday using the old Too Faced Smokey Eye Palette which you can still purchase here.

This was actually quite simple to do, seeing how the colors were meant to be put together for a look.  I started out with a primer and a base, then slapped the emerald color onto my lids.  I gently blended the midnight blue into the crease, and used a soft brown as a transition color.  I highlighted my browbone with a matte cream color, and highlighted the inner corner of my eyes with a sparkly champagne color. Rimmed and lined my eyes with black eyeliner, swiped on some mascara, and bam! :)

I think some lashes would have been nice with this look, but I slapped it on before work and I was running late.  Eeps! Next time!

Hope you guys are not too burnt out from Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping!  Take care, everyone!

FOTD: First Snow

I keep telling myself I have to jazz up my makeup, so here is something ever so slightly different than the looks I usually do.  *Kicks self in the butt for lack of creativity*  Anyways, I have seem to lost the ability to wear bright colors so I'm trying to ease back into it.  I have a soft, sparkly look today for work.  There is not as much contrast as I would have liked but that's okay.

Oops.  I guess my foundation is still too light.

Drank some coffee to stay awake at work.  Evidently,
there are some side effects.

One of my coworkers said I was a goddess of the ocean because
I had blue eyeshadow and sea horse earrings.  I kicked
him out of the shop.

Makeup Surgery: Depotting Urban Decay Primer Potion

I am well aware that UDPP has completely new packaging and that this would not be terribly useful for some of you.  However, I know many of us still have the old packaging of UDPP (at least for now!).  This is not exactly a tutorial on how to depot your own UDPP, but more of a journey on how I did mine.  I wanted to try it myself first before giving anybody direction, so here we go!

I have owned the XL size of UDPP for almost 2 years now.  I had already taken out the stopper that removes excess product from the wand, which allowed me to continue using product directly from the bottle.  Lately, however, it has been more and more difficult to get out the product, so I decided it would not hurt to cut the bottle open and see exactly how much stuff was left inside.

Now mind you, UDPP used to have a completely straight wand applicator, which made it even more difficult to get product out after a certain point.  With their new slanted wand, it was supposed to make sure you could get all the product out.

Here is my SMA (Sanitary Maintenance Area).  It's kind of ghetto, I know.  I wanted to cut the bottle open as carefully as I could so that I would not have to shatter the bottle and get debris in the product.  I cleaned the craft knife with alcohol before hand, and wiped the bottle down as well.

You see how neatly it cracked open in the bottom, but it was actually impossible to cut open with a craft knife so I used a hammer.  I wrapped the hammer head in some clean paper so I wouldn't get dirt in the product.

I peeled it back and look how much product is staring back at me.

This is seriously a lot.....

No, this is not phallic imagery.  I stuck the wand back in the bottle to see if the wand actually reached the product from within.  Technically it's supposed to, but I don't know what happened.

And now to crack the bottle open completely....

If you thought there was a crapton of product before, I've got 2-3x the amount here.

Unbelievably satisfying digging all that stuff out.  It's better than popping a zit!

Just for reference, there was originally 0.55 fluid ounces of product in the bottle.

I filled up this empty jar COMPLETELY.  It holds .21 ounces of product.  Meaning a little less than half the bottle is sitting in this jar, and would have gone to waste if I had not cut the bottle open.

Here is the original packaging, scraped of its innards.  I couldn't fit any more product in the jar, but I could have easily used what was left here for a few more looks.

The end result!  Too bad it dries out so quickly once it has been depotted.  I'm going to have to somehow use this up quickly!

Let me know if you have any questions!  Hope you enjoyed this post!

FOTD: A forest within the Carribean

Here is a look from earlier this week.  I felt like my Sleek Curacao palette wasn't getting enough love so I busted it out.  Even though it's a tropical palette, I didn't feel like rocking brights too much so I settled for a forest green look.

Unfortunately, my close up pictures didn't turn up very well.  The fact that I'm always rushing my makeup and snapping pictures before I run out the door doesn't allow me much time to play with settings.  Rawrrrrrr.

Canada (Birthday) Haul!

My birthday was last month and I am now the ripe, old age of 23.  My boyfriend surprised me with a package filled with makeup that is only available in Canada.

Some time in August I went clubbing and brought my favorite lipgloss with me, which was Quo lipgloss in Pout.  It fell out of my pocket on the dance floor unbeknownst to me and I was so upset that I told my boyfriend I was going to buy 6 more of them when I returned to Montreal.  He promptly went out the next day and bought me 6 more lipglosses.....

Quo released a palette either to promote women's health awareness or to help fund raise for it.  The palette includes 6 eyeshadows and 2 blushes.

I haven't had the best luck with Lise Watier products so far (probably because I have only tested their eyeshadows) but my boyfriend decided to take a stab and get me this beauty.  This is a lovely shimmery charcoal liquid liner, similar to Makeup Forever and Urban Decay's versions.

Here are some items from Quo's Fall 2011 Collection: A blush duo and an eyeshadow duo.

This is Plum's the word, one of the four duos that was available.  I featured this as well as the Lise Watier liner in my latest FOTD.

This blush palette is one of two that was available in the collection, and did not survive the journey from Quebec to California as well as I would have liked.

I hope this was entertaining for those of you that don't have access to Canadian makeup.  I wonder, would anybody be interested in doing a swap or a giveaway?  I'm heading to Montreal this Christmas and I can pick up some stuff.  Let me know!
