FOTD: Royal Sugar Dollipops

My brain is slightly fried but I'm determined to get this post up because this is one of my favorite looks that I've done in a long time and I really want to share it with y'all.

One of my former classmates recruited me to do makeup for a photoshoot of hers to promote her business.  Part of her business was promoting local artists, such as myself.  I was told I would be interviewed and filmed so I wanted to do something a little special with my makeup.  I love love love my brights so I had to pull out some Sugarpill eyeshadows.

After taking pictures for my pan porn post (lol, an alliteration!), it only made sense for me to do a look using some of the products.  While I'm not extremely happy with how the look turned out, you could at least see how makeup performs.

(old) FOTD: Green Beans

I wore this look a couple weeks ago for work.  The problem with posting things now and not then is that I don't remember most of the products I've used.  I really have to stop doing that.

I DO remember that I used Sleek's Curacao Palette (Apres Midori & Martini) and a matte black eyeshadow from Inglot for the eyes.  I also remember drawing inspiration from Sam of Pixiwoo for this look.  Those are the more important bits, I suppose.

I've been feeling so uninspired lately.  Like I said, these looks are from a few weeks ago and since then, I've only worn makeup twice.  I've been on youtube and reading through blogs like mad trying to catch some inspiration.  Perhaps it's time to take a break from makeup?  What a frightening thought.

Review: Curacao Palette (LE)

So I found these pictures in my folder, cropped, labeled, and ready to go.  I have no idea why I did not post about these earlier, but you may kick me.

This palette is no longer available on the Sleek website, but you may still find quite a few of these on ebay.  I purchased mine for approximately $12 USD not including shipping.

Pictures were taking outside in broad daylight and apparently it was too bright because the colors look a bit washed out.  As usual, swatches are done on bare skin with one swipe of the finger.  Do enlarge the pictures. You'll like it :)

Again, the swatches are a bit washed out in the pictures because I imagine it was too damn bright outside when I took the pictures.

Tequila Sunrise, Martini, Blue Lagoon, and Purple Haze are the most pigmented of the bunch.  The rest of the eyeshadows have very good pigmentation, just not as good.

Sleek eyeshadows (the palettes at least) tend to be very powdery and a bit soft.  Sticking my fingers into the eyeshadows for swatches seems to have deformed them a bit but they're still lovely.

Here are a few looks I've done using this palette:
-MicaBella Ad Inspired
-Curacao Madness
-Girly Girl
-A Forest Within the Carribean

I've actually neglected this palette for quite a while.  I think it's time to do a Project 7 Day Palette with this baby...once I upload swatches and reviews of all the crap I bought in Quebec.  I've been here for a month and I'll be heading home tomorrow.  More on that in another post to come.

So what are my overall thoughts on this palette?  Sleek didn't disappoint.  This is a fantastic palette for its price because it is a lovely collection of bright, pigmented colors.  The packaging is sleek and compact, and there is a huge mirror inside the case, but just the eyeshadows themselves are enough to make me happy.  If you don't live in the UK, they are a bit of a hassle to get your hands on, but it's worth it!

Questions?  Comments?  Ridiculous color combination requests for a look?  Let me know!

FOTD: Burning Heart

I purchased Sugarpill's Burning Heart over a year ago when Sugarpill put up some ever so slightly damaged palettes for about $20 each.  I managed to get my hands on a Burning Heart palette, which was actually in near  perfect condition except for a slight chip in the matte yellow eyeshadow.  Poison plum (purple) in my palette is not nearly as pigmented as the others, and I don't know if it's because my palette is supposedly defective.  In any case, I can sort of make it work if I swirl my brush in the shadow about 20 times.

I've done a few looks with this palette but never actually posted them (save my Halloween 2011 look) here on this blog.  The look I have here today was inspired by EyeGriffiti's Black and Red Tutorial.  It really doesn't look much like their masterpiece, but it made me dig out this gorgeous palette again and rock some brights.

Damn, I look like a BITCH without my glasses on.

FOTD: A forest within the Carribean

Here is a look from earlier this week.  I felt like my Sleek Curacao palette wasn't getting enough love so I busted it out.  Even though it's a tropical palette, I didn't feel like rocking brights too much so I settled for a forest green look.

Unfortunately, my close up pictures didn't turn up very well.  The fact that I'm always rushing my makeup and snapping pictures before I run out the door doesn't allow me much time to play with settings.  Rawrrrrrr.

FOTD: Girly Girl

Today was bright and sunny and wondrous looking in terms of climate so I wanted to do something bright and fun.  I pulled out my Curacao palette yet again, and settled for a pink and purple look.  I gravitated towards purple and blue again but i was afraid of replicating the MicaBella look again.  I was okay with the end result, although I rarely wear pink so it felt a little weird.  I don't know what I have against pink, but I just don't really like wearing it too much.  These pictures were taken after a 5 hour work shift, 1 hour walk in 85 degree weather, and two hours of other random stuff.  I didn't do any touchups other than a bit of lip balm and lipstick.  The shimmery white eyeshadows faded considerably =(

FOTD: Curacao Madness

I have absolutely no idea what I wanted to call this look, hence the very unoriginal name.  In any case i did another look with the new Curacao palette.  I wanted to pile on the brights but somehow ended up with all jewel toned colors so that it is not over the top bright.  I also wanted to use a brown for a transition color but there is no brown in the palette.  Instead I opted for orange which looks a bit odd but not too bad.

I look stupid but at least you can see the makeup.

I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and take some pictures outside.  I figured that with swatches, they are generally photographed better outside in the sun.  I'm not sure if the outdoor FOTD pictures came out all that well in terms of being able to see the makeup better though.

FOTD: MicaBella Ad Inspired

I love MicaBella eyeshadows.  One day I'll do a review on them!  But for now I have this look for you, which has an amusing story to go with it.  I was cleaning my room and came across the MicaBella ad that I grabbed when I first made a purchase with them, and I kept it because I wanted to recreate the look eventually.  Later on in the day, I slapped on some makeup for work.  When I was done, I realized how very very similar my look was to the ad.  Funny how our unconscious works, huh?

First, let me show you the ad:

And here is the look!  Obviously it's not exact, and I did not use this picture as a reference as I applied the makeup.  It just happened.

Eyes:
-UDPP
-Sleek Curacao Palette
-Too Faced e/s in Heaven
-L'oreal Lineur Intense Liquid Liner
-L'oreal Waterproof CarbonBlack Mascara

-Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder
-NYC Matte Bronzer
-NARS Blush in Deep Throat

Lips:
-Rimmel l/s in Airy Fairy

My face seems lighter than my body in some of the pictures but that's because of the SPF in the tinted moisturizer.  I hope you enjoyed this look!  I certainly did and was pretty sad to take it off at the end of the day.

Weeeeeee~

Sleek Haul!

Sleek is a much talked about brand amongst the blogging world, and it is generally only available in the UK.  Sleek.com also ships internationally but the shipping price is quite pricey at $13.50.  I headed over to an ebay buyer as recommended by Claire and made a purchase from VanityPalace.  Apparently the prices on the Sleek products are cheaper and the service is better than that of Sleek.com's.  I can't do a comparison but my order came to California within a week of payment which is super fast!  Not even Sephora delivers that quickly.  I think in the end though I may have paid the same amount of shipping, but that's okay.  That's what happens when you try to acquire makeup from another country.  My total with shipping was about $38 USD.  Here's what I got:

Curacao palette, Pixie Pink Blush, and Santorini Blush
The flash killed the brightness of both blushes.  When I have proper lighting again and space to work,  I'll provide swatches and a review. Sigh.  That will be a while from now.  I don't even know where I put these products.  They're somewhere in the midst of my piles of boxes and things.

The Curacao palette and Santorini Blush are both limited edition so if they tickle your fancy, pick them up fast!
