Blog Sale Update: Tons of new stuff!

Hey ladies~
I've added tons of new stuff to my blog sale--mostly because I have made plans to teach English in Korea next year, and would otherwise leave most of my makeup back home to rot.
In order to qualify for my teaching position, I've had to dish out a couple hundred dollars that I don't have on some certification classes. I've had to put up a lot of makeup that I really love on sale. It would be fantastic if you would have a look and perhaps pick up a few items that you would like.
All items are heavily discounted, and either very lightly used or not used at all.
I only accept paypal, and at this point I will ship to anywhere in the world. The pictures above are only a few of the items I have for sale--I have over 100 items to sell! Please check out the blogsale link for any questions you may have about shipping and purchasing and whatnot. Please email me via jannysmakeup@gmail.com to make a purchase. Blog sale link is http://jannysblogsale.blogspot.com

Thanks for all your support, guys! I really appreciate it!

FOTD: Kelly Green Hysteria

Last night, I was desperately in need of a pick-me-up.  I was so stressed out from school and more school and finals and graduation and everything seemed to be going wrong.  I had an 8 page paper due pretty damn soon, but I was just so burnt out...I NEEDED something else.  So I spent a good hour experimenting, and then another hour and a half taking pictures, cropping, etc.  My mood was considerably better afterwards; it was like night and day.  Makeup really is an art, and for me, it can even be therapy.

So again, I thirsted for color and tried to put something wild together.  Although the look is more colorful than usual, they're actually quite tame, almost pastel colors.  There is no defined crease, so the look is actually quite light despite the presence of bright colors.  I think this is something I would wear out for fun.  To school?  I'd like to but I don't think I have the confidence for it.

I purposely took the picture at this angle so you can see how I deliberately made the
gold in the inner corner a bit messy.

Hair fluffing fail.  Ended up looking like bedhead instead.

There's a funny story behind this one.  Keep reading down below.
So I was webcamming with my boyfriend while I was doing my makeup and taking pictures afterwards.  Here is the conversation that we had:

Me: *taking pictures of makeup*
Frank: Maybe you should do a wild one.
Me: *makes this face*
Frank: That's one possibility. But if this is for your blog, I would not recommend it.
Me: *laughs*
Frank: I was thinking more like "femme fatale in a jungle of men, tracking her prey". Not "angry dog at neighbors."
Me: *laughs hysterically*
Frank: Please, Janny, stay with me. I don't know what your chances are at a bar.

I seriously almost died laughing.  On a more serious note, I really would not be this far in pursuing my passion if not for his love and support.  So merci, mon François.

This was my best attempt at "femme fatale" after the laughing fest.
I was still on the verge of laughter.

I'm trying a new thing where I actually take a picture of the products I used, so you guys can see if you have something similar in your collection in case you wanted to recreate these looks.  I actually got this idea from Vulcan Butterfly who always takes pics of the equipment.  I hope you guys find this helpful!

Okay, back to slaving away.  My work is never done.  I'm pretty sick of school at this point.  Why do I want to be a teacher again?  I'm not sure.

Lotsa love,
Janny

How do you interact with your readers?

I'm wondering how y'all do it, because I'm just confused.  Blogger isn't like facebook where you receive notifications from people who comment on the same blog as you do.  Granted, you CAN select that option, but you also get a flood of other people who make comments completely unrelated to yours.  I didn't want to have my email flooded with these sorts of email notifications, but that's probably something I should do so that I can communicate with everyone.  But at the same time, does everyone else click that option where you get email notifications on future comments.....AM I MAKING ANY SENSE?  Cause if they don't click that option, they won't know if you replied or not....

Let me put it this way: I comment on a lot of different blogs, but I can't always remember exactly which post I comment on so I can't always go back and look to see if that person answered.  At the same time, when I reply to somebody else, I don't know if that person knows that i'm replying to them.

So fellow bloggers--how do you do it?  Share with me your secrets!!!

Random picture of the day: I stuck my roommate's stuffed seal in my sleeping shirt and squeezed the shit out of him.  Animal abuse, I know =(  But he's ok! :D

P.S. HI DAVE. I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS.

May 2011 Favorites

Boo...I did this video in a hurry so I accidentally left out a few things.  But I see myself using them a lot into the summer months so they will be featured next month :)

Anyways back to the month of May....

1. Combination of Too Faced Lock down Cream Shadow in Dramarama, MAC's Satin Taupe, and Inglot matte eyeshadow in 376.  Together, this just makes such a lovely neutral toned smokey look.  Slapping this look together takes minutes, so I've been wearing this look pretty often.  I have a FOTD featuring these products if you'd like to have a look.

2. Kat Von D perfume in Saint.  My boyfriend got this for my 21st birthday and I used it regularly for a while.  I stopped using it to enjoy some of my other perfumes, but I've found myself reaching back to this one, and have been using it pretty much everyday .  It has a lovely vanilla and citrus scent, with some floral notes in it.  It's just a wonderfully fruity and yummy scent!

3. L'oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Carbon Black.  I needed a waterproof mascara a while back and picked this up.  I didn't use it till lately because I had been using a waterproof formula by Inglot.  I find that this mascara lengthens and voluminizes my lashes quite nicely.  It's also very black and very waterproof.  It has been raining a whole lately which does not make sense, but this stuff won't budge.  It's a pain in the ass to remove, more so than other waterproof formulas that I have used, but I suppose it is just doing its job!

4. L'oreal TruMatch Foundation.  I purchased this last summer because I wanted a darker, inexpensive foundation to mix with my current foundation to match my darker complexion.  I have had to start mixing foundations again because working outside with students during my internship has resulted in some tanning.  This stuff has phenomenal coverage, even better than my Smashbox foundation.  I has SPF 17, which is nice because it provides a bit of protection, but not too much SPF so that it does no photograph well.

5. CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipsticks in Divine.  I love all of these lipsticks, but this one I have been wearing a lot.  I picked it up because I have a thing for purple lipsticks.  This one comes out a bit more fuschia with a hint of blue, but is really lovely all the same.  I have been wearing this lipstick with a neutral eye but heavily winged eyeliner.  Definitely a fun color to wear out.

6. Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder.  I mentioned why I purchased this on my last Sephora Haul post, but just to recap,  I was looking for a setting powder for all skin tones and one that would photograph well.  I used this powder on two other girls' prom makeup, as well as on myself after I have gotten darker and could no longer use my light setting powder.  This stuff is lightweight and photographs quite well.  I'm really loving it so far.  For $34, it was quite a splurge but you get a lot of product and the stuff works great.

Okidoke, that's all I have for the month of May.  Hopefully for June, I will have lots of new products to feature because that is when I'll have plenty of time to do more looks.  I'm hoping to do lots of bright, dramatic looks while I still can, before I have to tone everything down and look professional in Korea.  We'll see how that goes.

Until next time, au revoir!

Playing around with Sugarpill & Falsies

I had a long day yesterday, and I'll have many more to come due to finals, final papers, and so forth.  Still, I squashed in some time yesterday to play with makeup.  This was much needed.  I've been dying to use my Sugarpill pigments that I got back in February when they last had their 20% off sale.  I will absolutely be doing a full review on those once I have played with them some more, because I am in LOVE with the pigments and for sure be buying every single color next time they have a sale and when I start getting paid.

Here's the look:

Yeah, so just don't mind the chunks of dried lash glue everywhere.  It was my second time putting on falsies and I got a little glue happy.  I actually pulled a few of my eyelashes out when removing the lashes. Ouch.

BUT--This look was so much fun to create!  I was in desperate need of some color and drama, since my everyday looks are a little bit toned down for my taste.  If I had the time and the confidence, I'd wear looks like this everyday.  I have craploads of lashes that I bought from ebay that I'm not using because they're bit, fat, and intimidating as hell.  The ones used here are from Duo, and they are the most tame pair of lashes that I have.  I can't wait to play with the other ones some more, now that I have kinda sorta gotten used to them. Yay yay yay!

There are definitely a few things I would have done differently now that I look back at the look.  I would have used Magpie wet, so that it would show up better on the lid (in photos anyway).  Maybe I should have chosen a different inner corner highlight, or brought the lid color a little further in.  In any case, I look forward to doing a lot more looks like these.

Stuff I yoozed:

Face:
-Smashbox Foundation in Light 3
-L'oreal TruMatch Foundation in N6
-NYC Matte Bronzer in Sunny
-BareMinerals Well-Rested undereye brightener
-Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder
-NARS Blush in Oasis
-NARS Multiple in Copacabana

Eyes:
-UDPP
-MAC Paintpot in Painterly
-Sugarpill Loose Shadows in Magpie (lid), Royal Sugar (crease), and Weekender (above the crease)
-NARS e/s duo in Dogon--light taupe color for inner corner highlight
-Korres e/s in 11M Base (brow highlight)
-UD 24/7 Liner in Zero
-Stila Smudgepot in Black
-Duo falsies in D13
-INGLOT Volume & Waterproof Mascara

Lips:
-Lancome Cover Fever l/s in Rose Tempest

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. Yes, I've gotten a little darker lol.  And I know that Amy of Sugarpill sometimes sends out products for bloggers to try, but I'm not one of them ='(.  Just in case you were wondering :)

American Eagle Sale! 30% off + Free Shipping

Hey ladies and gents~

I figured you guys may be overwhelmed by sales right now and here's another one to throw at you!  I personally like to shop at American Eagle for undies, sweatshirts, and sometimes shirts.  I also only shop at the clearance section, just because I'm kinda cheap and don't really know how to shop for/appreciate clothes like I do with makeup.  30% off AND free shipping is about as good as it gets when it comes to American Eagle sales.  I love how most if not all of their clothing is 100% cotton, and when they're on sale they're about the same price as clothes from retailers such as Forever21 and Rue21.  I find the quality of the clothing there lacking in quality, even if they are cute and affordable.

I bought a shirt for about $10.50 and some sexy undies for a little less than $5.  Nothing like wearing something skimpy underneath to boost your mood/confidence for the day!  I'll probably not do a haul video cause I only bought two items and it's a bit weird showing the world your underwear.

Okay enough rambling lol.  This sale ends on Monday, and you can shop by going to http://www.ae.com/web/index.jsp.  If you shop through ebates (affiliate link), you can get a 3% cash back.

Happy shopping!

A serious graduation talk with my sister

Me, big sis, little bro

For those of you who read my blog, I thank you for doing so.  It is very rewarding for me to be able to share my thoughts on all things beauty, and have those thoughts be either useful or entertaining for you.  As much as I love makeup and colors, I feel like this blog only lets you see a partial side of me.  So I'd like to share a conversation I had with my sister.  Just a little bit of background for ya: My brother and I are both graduating this year (from different institutions of course).  This is not as crazy as it gets, but this is a typical conversation between her and myself.

Janny:
so i'm thinking about making dave (my younger brother who is graduating from high school soon) candy leis again
    don't tell him
and i thought about filling them with carrots
Carmen:

Janny:

Carmen
    LMAO
Janny:

Janny:    hm

    LOL
    GREAT IDEA
    EGGS

maybe i should hardboil them so that when they break they won't leak on him
Carmen:    ....
Janny:    well
Carmen:    he's gonna look like an easter bunny
Janny:    not a lot of eggs
Carmen:    you should make him ears
Janny:    maybe only 3

Carmen:    eggs and veggies?
Janny:    hm

    but i won't have time
Carmen:    hrm
Janny:    well

Carmen:    hm

Janny:    we need a fog horn
    or a gong
Carmen:    or just the pots
Janny:    we'll have to hide them or they wont' let us in
Carmen:    :-(
Janny:    i wonder if we can bring mikey (my dog)
Carmen:    not cool
    LOL
    he'll get restless
Janny:    but he'll be happy
Carmen:    he will
