NOTD: Partial Crackle

I never have the chance to do my nails anymore because I'm back to working in food service.  But I'm on vacation and I finally had a chance to do my nails a couple days ago.  Nothing too fancy but it's something :)

All I've got on is 2 coats of Revlon polish in Shrinking Violet, and OPI Black Crackle.  No matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of those damn bubbles in the nail polish.  Rawrrr.

When I get back from my vacation, I think I'll force myself to do my nails on my days off so I can learn to get better.  I really am a noobasaur when it comes to nails.  Any of you guys have some nail product/supply must-haves?  If so, please feel free to share!

  1. Ooh, Shrinking Violet is gorgeous! I have really weak nails that grow in weird shapes and flake and peel and split like crazy... I started using the Sally Hansen Nail Nutrition Green Tea + Olive Grow formula as my base coat, and it seriously helped my nails grow past nubs. Also, (like half the rest of the nail-polishing world...) I swear by Seche Vite top coat. It's on the pricey side, but it's very worth it; it dries so quickly, and gives all my polishes a glassy shine. If you don't have a glass nail file, those are nice and gentle for light shaping, but I still use emery boards for hard-core snags, even though they're not supposed to be as good for your nails.

A note about air bubbles: sometimes they're from using 3-free polishes with non 3-free base or top coats, although I do this all the time and rarely encounter this problem. Sometimes the formula you're using is just prone to bubbles! Also, shaking your polish right before you apply it will cause bubbling; try shaking it half an hour before you do your nails, or just rolling it between your hands to mix it up if you have to do it right before your manicure. A little tiny brush (I have an e.l.f one from Target) and acetone are great for cleaning up around the nail, too!

Haha, sorry for the essay, I am not great at doing my nails but I have put some time and research into getting better, and thought I'd pass along some of my findings! I'm sure others have better tips and tricks. Good luck, and please share your experiments with us!

  4. Oh god, I am still so bad with nails! They are hard to do :( I like how you only put the crackle polish on the tips of your nails, that looks really neat!
