Hello beautiful people! I have a dilemma the size of Africa right now and I need all your input!
As you all know, I'm an aspiring makeup artist with very very little experience under my belt. I've only been doing makeup more seriously in the past two years, but I know for certain that it is my calling. I've done makeup here and there on classmates and friends, but never a real job.
So today is Halloween (HAPPY HALLOWEENIE EVERYONE!). I put more emphasis on my makeup than my costume and I look like some sort of possessed....person (I'll post pictures later!). I was at work today serving ice cream to this woman and she tells me how much she likes my makeup. I cheerfully thank her and tell her that I am an aspiring makeup artist. She keeps telling me how pretty my makeup was and how she really liked it and at this point I'm like "uhh......"
She then tells she's like to hire me to do makeup parties for her business. She gives me her card and asks me to call her and talk about rates and those sorts of details......
I'm still freaking out. Wow! A job offer! I was so excited! And I'm also so very terrified because I don't know what to do! Her clients are probably women of all ages! What if they don't like color? What if they're older women?? Not that I don't want to do makeup on them, but I really don't know if the techniques are the same! Would I have to supply all the makeup? Am I teaching? Am I applying the makeup? I am so TERRIFIED of disappointing people! TERRIFIED! How much should I charge? I don't want to charge too much because I'm not official yet. But I don't want to charge too little and get stepped on.
I'm going to talk to my teacher tomorrow and ask. But gosh, I want to do this so bad!
Anyone have any tips for the business side of things? =( I could really use your help!

Makeover: Amphitrite
Yesterday, I spent about 4 hours doing hair and makeup for one of my coworkers, Emma. She was going to a party as Amphitrite, known in Greek mythology as Poseidon's wife and Goddess of the oceans. Emma has beautiful loonngg hair, very goddess and princess-like. In that sense, at least, the hair part was easy. I used a flat iron to create loose, flowing curls. I teased her hair a bit in the crown for some volume and pinned up some of her hair for volume. Her bangs were also pinned up and out of the way into a soft bump to keep her forehead free for a seashell-adorned tiara.
For the makeup, I had originally planned to give her very dramatic, midnight blue smokey eyes with bold, false lashes. The problem is, her dress was very simple, and by overdoing it on both the makeup and hair, the details would be top heavy. I instead kept the eyemakeup somewhat simple. The colors are shimmery, sheer, but extended out so that it seems a bit more dramatic. I lined her top waterline with black, and used a navy gel liner on her top lashline. I glued on a full set of lashes before adorning some ocean blue rhinestones on her lids. I also drew some scales on her temple/forehead, neck, shoulder, and leg. I finished with some lipstick and lipgloss.
And after all that....I whipped out my camera only to find that I had left the memory card in my computer. So here is a picture from Emma's iphone:
Eyes:
-Benefit Taupe-Aztec Creaseless Cream Shadow (LE)
-Inglot eyeshadows (A silvery taupe, midnight blue, and a matte cream)
-Milani Liquifeye Liner
-L'oreal HIP Midnight Blue Gel Liner
-Full Sized Falsies from Ebay
Face:
-NARS e/s in Night Sun for highlight.
Lips:
-CoverGirl LipPerfection l/s in Heavenly
-MUA lipgloss
Scales:
-Too Faced Shadow Insurance
-BFTE e/s in Jaded
-Spellbound e/s in Lagoon
-ELF liquid liner
I really wish my camera was functioning! I would have LOVED to capture the details better! This is my first time doing something like this and I had a blast. Emma is already naturally beautiful with really good skin and hair to work with so she rocked the makeup.
I hope you guys enjoyed this look and that you all had safe, but fun, Halloween parties!

EOTD: Mineral Makeup Playdate
I desperately need either better lighting, a better camera, or both. Because I am getting sick and tired of not being able to capture my makeup the way I see it.
Anyways, I have a drawer full of beautiful pigments and mineral makeup that I don't ever use because it's messy and takes too long to apply. A couple days ago I found time to dive into this drawer and slap some colors together for a look. I personally REALLY liked the look and was so excited to show it to y'all. Upon taking pictures, however, I was super duper disappointed. Here's why:
The makeup was a lot more pigmented and brighter in person. Oh, and I also didn't have any foundation on so there are no full face photos. All eyeshadows were applied dry. Anybody have tips for applying pigments? I don't know when to use them wet, what kind of base to put underneath (especially since I don't own the legendary eye pixie poxie), etc.
Eyes:
-UDPP in Sin
-Black Rose Minerals e/s in Royal Orchid on the lid
-Spellbound e/s in Lagoon on outer corner of eye
-Spellbound e/s in Shroom in inner corner of eye
-MicaBella e/s in Luck o' the Irish in crease
-Stila smudgepot in Violet
-Stila e/l in Topaz
-Milani liquifeye pencil in Black
-L'oreal Extra Collagen Mascara

FOTD: Neutrals Overload
I love having as much time as I want to apply my makeup. It makes makeup seem more fun than functional. I wanted to throw on some bright colors today but I always seem to have some excuse not to do so. Yesterday's excuse (as this was yesterday's look) was that I had thrown on a shirt that was meant to be for my dad but he didn't fit. In other words, my outfit was very casual, so I didn't want to over do it on the makeup. Still, I didn't want something boring so I threw this together:
I actually took about 50 pictures, and narrowed it down to these few. I'm really mad that the pictures don't show the look in more detail. I used about 4 neutral-y colors around the eye, and made it somewhat of a more dramatic day time look. I used some gold on the bottom lashline to contrast the midnight blue eyeliner on the top and bottom lashline. To keep up with the casual theme, I just slapped on some lipgloss.
Face:
-Aveeno tinted moisturizer in medium
-Laura Mercier setting powder
-NYC Matte Bronzer in Sunny
-NARS blush in Deep Throat
Eyes:
-UDPP
-MAC Painterly Paintpot
-Naked Palette: Virgin, Smog, Half-baked, Buck, Dark Horse
-Too Faced e/s in Heavenly
-L'oreal HIP gel eyeliner in Midnight Blue
-Milani Liquifeye eyeliner in Black
-L'oreal Extra Collagen Mascara
Lips:
-Buxom lipgloss (shade unknown)
Whee! I'm getting back into the swing of things. I loooovee makeup =D!!!

Sephora's 2011 Friends and Family Sale! 20% off your entire purchase!
So I have been wondering why I haven't been seeing massive amounts of blog posts announcing Sephora's F&F Sale this year. It's because Sephora has decided to do something a little bit tricky, and make you work to get the code. Instead of simply programming one code for everyone to use, Sephora is making you go to www.sephora.com/friends, inputting your email address, and giving you a special one-time use code. You won't be able to use this code in stores, as it is now online only. By giving them your email, you are also allowing Sephora to send you emails about new products and all that fun stuff. Tricky, huh?
Unfortunately, this sale is limited to U.S. residents only. Again, you can only use it online, and you can only use it once.
I wanted the NARS blush palette so damn badly but I was waiting for the code to come out before I placed an order. And now that I have found out how to access the code, the damn thing is sold out. Ah, well.
You have until 11/2/2011 to use this code. Happy shopping!

FOTD: First time getting NAKED
So a few weeks ago I FINALLY picked up Urban Decay's NAKED palette. Honestly, I have a few mixed feelings about this palette so far. Not a big fan of the packaging or the brush, and I find the eyeshadows to be a little powdery. But in any case, here is the first look I threw together with this palette.
Face (Honestly, you'd think I could just copy and paste this section by now since it's always the same):
-Aveeno tinted moisturizer in Medium
-Laura Mercier setting powder
-NYC Matte Bronzer in Sunny
-NARS blush in Deep Throat
Eyes:
-UDPP
-UD Naked Palette: Virgin, Buck, Hustle, Dark Horse
-Inglot e/s in AMC 66, AMC 70
-UD 24/7 Liner in Perversion
-L'oreal Extra Collagen Mascara
-NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Cottage Cheese
Lips:
-Buxom l/g in Amber
Notice that I got rid of the watermarks. I figured at this point in time, nobody is going to want to steal my crappy pictures. Plus it takes too long to run them through photoshop and blah blah blah.
Sorry this post is so short. It seems like if I ever want to blog, I really have to cram it into my schedule.

FOTD: Inglot purples
My sister got me an eyeshadow palette from Vegas earlier this year and it has received fairly little love. It's also one of the palettes I have been bringing to class lately so I've busted it out quite a few times for this look. Man, I hate functional makeup but at least it gets me through the day. My hair is super duper flat cause I got rained on today and it dried super flat for some reason. Blah. On with the pictures!
Face:
Yeah yeah yeah they're uneven as always. Can't help if one eye is bigger than the other! |
I'm trying to be a sexy fish. |
The palette I used. |
-Aveeno tinted moisturizer in Medium
-Laura Mercier setting powder
-NYC Matte Bronzer in Sunny
-NARS blush in Deep Throat
Eyes:
-UDPP
-Inglot e/s in 440P, DS482, 420P, and a matte black
-Wet n Wild e/s in Brulee
-Milani liquid liner
-UD 24/7 Liner in Perversion
-L'oreal Extra Collagen mascara
Lips:
